CENTENARY PUBLICATIONS FROM SHEFFIELD ACADEMIC PRESS

William Morris on Art and Design. Edited by Christine Poulsen.

As one of the giants of nineteenth-century design, William Morris's influence is still very much felt today. Not only was he a prolific and accomplished designer but he also lectured and wrote extensively on art and design in a vivid and compelling way. This book brings together for the first time a comprehensive selection of lectures, articles, letters and extracts from Morris's utopian novel, News from Nowhere, representing every aspect of his thinking from the social and political advice on how to furnish one's house and what kind of flowers to plant in the garden.

ISBN 1-85075-611-2, 120pp., £6.95/$9.95.

William Morris on Architecture. Edited by Chris Miele.

Until now our understanding of Morris's contribution to architectural culture has come through the medium of his many interpreters. This collection of his writings on architecture and conservation, the first of its kind, will enable general readers to judge what he had to say about the natural and crafted environments for themselves by bringing together pieces which have been out of print for decades and are now only available in specialist libraries. The selection cuts across literary genre, mingling correspondence, fiction, public addresses, and articles written between 1855 and 1896.

ISBN 1-85075 612 0, 120pp., £6.95/$9.95.

William Morris on History. Edited by Nicholas Salmon.

Morris was also one of Britain's first socialist historians. This volume collects together all his most important historical writings from the period of his active involvement in the socialist movement. It includes the historical chapters of Socialism From the Root Up, articles from Justice and Commonweal, and six of his most influential lectures. Two of these lectures have not been reprinted since they first appeared in the nineteenth century. Together these works enable the reader to reassess the historical vision of one of the foremost socialist thinkers of the Victorian Age.

ISBN 1-85075-606-6, 120pp., £6.95/$9.95.
