Sanderson and the Designs of William Morris

illiam Morris did not have any dealings with Sanderson during his lifetime, although his designs are an important part of the firm's output today. Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd were first commissioned to produce wallpapers for Morris & Co. in 1930, and for the next ten years all Morris & Co. papers were printed by hand at Sanderson's wallpaper factory. In 1940, when Morris and Co. went into liquidation, Sanderson bought from the receiver the wallpaper blocks, log books and pattern books which were already in their possession and have continued, ever since, to block-print Morris wallpapers by hand in the traditional manner. Sanderson has the capacity to custom color each design so a particular preference can be accommodated.

Some Morris wallpaper designs have been adapted for use an textiles (Sanderson has a printed, woven and tapestry fabric range). In addition, Morris & Co. designs have also been produced as machine-printed wallpapers.

Sanderson is only sold through the trade in the US. If you wish to purchase our wallpapers or fabrics, contact your local designer or architect or write for a referral to
