Useful and Beautiful: The Journal of the William Morris Society in the United States solicits submissions for peer-reviewed articles, magazine content, and book reviews.
U&B is a lively multi-disciplinary publication that explores the full range of the life, work, and lasting global influence of William Morris. In keeping with Morris’s commitment to design for all, U&B includes both magazine articles and peer-reviewed articles. True to Morris’s innovative integration of text, design, and image on the printed page, we aim to incorporate many images into each issue. We welcome article submissions for peer review from Morris enthusiasts at all career stages, and invite magazine content from designers, artists, art historians, collectors, scholars, curators, 19th-century aficionados, and fans of William Morris, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and the Arts and Crafts movement and their wide-ranging legacies.
Articles for peer review and submissions for magazine content should not exceed 9,000 words (including notes), and book reviews should not exceed 1,500 words. All submissions should be formatted according to The Chicago Manual of Style (NB) requirements. To ensure anonymity for peer review, articles should also avoid self-identification in the text, header, or title page.
Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis; submissions for a Fall 2024 issue should be received by June 15, 2024. Any queries and all submissions should be sent to wmsuspublications@gmail.com
