On September 29, 2021, Dr. Anna Wager (Hobart & William Smith Colleges) presented her lecture “Subversive Stitching: May Morris and Embroidery”, exploring the work of May Morris (1862-1938), an accomplished designer, embroiderer, public speaker, writer, educator, advocate for social causes, and founder of the Women’s Guild of Arts. The talk focused on the objects of May’s creation and how her works fit into a broader nineteenth-century history of stitching and revolutionary action. A question and answer session followed.

The event was recorded, and the video is available below or on our Youtube channel.
